Julie Blyfield

I went to a lecture by Julie Blyfield, an Australian jeweller a few days ago. I felt so inspired, her work is so beautiful, her technique (chasing) really brings the silver to life, she is capable of making the cold hard material look like its just popped out of the ground. In her lecture she showed us her journey - her initial inspiration, her drawings, her models and then her pieces. Its was so interesting seeing the way she worked, how she got from one place to another. After the lecture I ran straight to the Scottish Gallery to see her exhibition on show and was fortunate enough to be allowed to see the jewellery up close and was given permission to touch and examine her pieces (wearing gloves of course). It was all so immaculate, the back of the piece considered just as much as the front. I am attaching a link to her work thats up on the Scottish Gallery, she is definitely worth a look. I was particularly taken with her vessels that look as if they are wicker baskets and her water container vessels with the squint lids.
